Nashville, Tn. A walking playground for today's and yesterday's biggest, industry leading, Steel Guitar players.
It is common practice to walk into a local bar and see Alan Jackson's or Randy Travis' steel guitar player playing with the band. Or Ernest Tubb's or Loretta Lynn's steel player playing on a Friday night somewhere. You may look over at the next dinner table and see Llyod Green, who is always willing to chat and answer questions. Or stop in to a local music store and see Eddie Rabbit's steel player checking something cool out. And there's always a chance of seeing Jelly Roll's steel player coming to see other local players, while in town.
This steel guitar, in all its glory, holds intrigue by its unquestionable sound and often infuriating attempts to play it. From foot pedals, to knee levers, to tone bars, and hitting the right notes - there's a lot going on with this proposed, "easier to play" instrument.
Oh, and the never ending debate about which make/model holds the best sound, with sequential discussions on which amplifier compliments said steel!
The Steel's gut wrenching, crying tone, that pulls at our hearts, makes this truly indicative to Country Music.
While we know that the steel guitar is alive and well in other genre's, for those of us here in Nashville, along with every true country listener around the world, it's clear to see that the music industry of today is denying this great instrument its heritage in country music.
NTSGA upholds the Steel Guitars' value in country music, and strives to hand this instrument down to the next generation, to assure its existence in ALL country music.
We hope you will join us in our mission to keep it alive by becoming a member.
Because truly - "There ain't nothing like a steel guitar, to drown a memory."
